GTM, GA4, and the Conversions API

Advanced conversion tracking, a GTM setup, and Consent Mode v2. Turn lost data into profit.

Today's bidding algorithms (Smart Bidding, Performance Max) work on the rule of garbage in, garbage out. If tracking loses 30–50% of events through tagging errors, a missing consent mode, or browser blocks, the campaigns waste the budget. We put in place a tight measurement stack.

A dark room, an orange lamp, and paths of light on an empty table

When Google Ads cannot see the purchase or the lead.

After third-party cookies went away, and under GDPR and the DMA, ordinary tags stopped working properly.

  1. 1

The algorithm does not know who bought

It cannot find similar people in the auction.

  2. 2

    CPA rises, ROAS falls

Cost looks worse, because some conversions never return to the report.

  3. 3

You pause a campaign that earns

The decision rests on an incomplete reading, not on profit.

Scope

The measurement stack.

Advanced

Consent Mode v2

Cookieless signals when a person does not consent, and modeling of the lost conversions.

The parameters ad_storage, analytics_storage, ad_user_data, and ad_personalization.

GTM joined with Cookiebot, CookieYes, OneTrust, Iubenda, or a custom bar.

SHA-256

Enhanced conversions

Email, phone, and address from a form or a basket, hashed one way before they are sent.

The source reports a 5–17% rise in reported conversions and sharper Smart Bidding.

Server and CRM

Conversions API

Server-side tracking bypasses browser blocks, ad blockers, and the limits of ITP and iOS.

Google Ads and Bing Ads receive events from outside the page: lead qualification, a contract, an invoice, an order after a return.

The algorithm learns from realized profit, not from a form click alone.

Container

Google Tag Manager

We remove duplicate tags, old pixels, and errors that slow the site.

dataLayer: view_item, add_to_cart, begin_checkout, purchase, generate_lead, form_submit.

Custom scripts: scroll, a click on email and phone, copy, a form error, a calculator. Coordination of Meta, LinkedIn, TikTok, Hotjar, and Clarity.

GDPR

Lists and Customer Match

A sync of emails and phones from the CRM to Google and Microsoft.

Lists from basket value, purchase frequency, abandonments, and loyalty.

Without distortion

Google Analytics 4

PayU, Przelewy24, and Stripe excluded from referrals.

Dimensions and metrics for the business model, plus explorations and funnels.

Questions

How do I know whether my Consent Mode v2 works?

Google Ads has a consent-mode diagnostics card. In the console we check the gcs and gcd parameters. If they do not change after a choice on the bar, the setup is faulty.

How do enhanced conversions differ from an ordinary tag?

An ordinary tag relies on a cookie and the gclid. A device change or a cookie block loses the conversion. Enhanced conversions hash, for example, the email and match the event to a signed-in Google account.

Can you set the tracking up without our developers?

On an ordinary CMS or shop, most of the measurement goes through Google Tag Manager. On a custom app you get a one-page dataLayer specification for the IT team.
